Even If God Seems Against You

Hey there!

I have read about a great many Christians, including quite a lot of ‘mystics’, and  found none who appeared to have  had a more supernatural, consistent and loving closeness to God and Christ Jesus than Brother Lawrence….excluding Biblical saints, of course. His personal and joyful relationship with Them was LITERALLY a moment by moment, day in and day out  experience for over 40 years!!

However, before he actually began to experience  this supernatural blessing, he had these words to say in his book “Practicing The Presence Of God”:

“It seemed to me that ALL creatures, reason, and God Himself were against me and  faith alone for me.” (emphasis mine)

Now, keep in mind this sentiment and reasoning was felt by him while he was wholeheartedly endeavoring to ‘converse’ with God and Jesus EVERY  moment or so (when possible) during his daily activities.

Even still, he persisted in ‘faith alone’. And just when it seemed as though he would have to remain in this imagined alienated state for the rest of his life, the glorious and supernatural relationship with God and Jesus described in his book suddenly burst on the scene!

You can read more about this wonderful and inspiring story at the Category “Practicing The Presence Of God” and also discover how to gain FREE access to his complete book by the same title online.

I will add in closing that the experiences with our Father and our Savior are always different from one another. Some of us will experience that personal relationship in a more gradual way than Brother Lawrence. As well,  all of our spiritual relationships with Them will have multiple and varying  degrees and ways. And yet, the moment  by moment experiencing of Their presence is available to us ALL!

Until later, in Him.

Spiritual Confusion

Greetings!

Here is another insightful excerpt from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” and can be found at http://utmost.org/going-through-spiritual-confusion/ , along with the other 364 of his daily devotionals. Editing and emphasis will be mine.

“There are times in your spiritual life when there is confusion, and the way out of it is not simply to say that you should not be confused. It is not a matter of right and wrong, but a matter of God taking you through a way that you temporarily do not understand. And it is only by going through the spiritual confusion that you will come to the understanding of what God wants for you.

….is how the heavenly Father will appear to you at times. You will think that He is an unkind friend, but remember – HE IS NOT. The time will come when everything will be explained. There seems to be a cloud on the friendship of the heart, and often even love itself has to wait in pain and tears for the FULLER  fellowship and oneness. When God appears to be completely shrouded, will you hang on with confidence in Him?

Jesus said that there are times when your Father will appear as if He where an unnatural Father – as if  He were callous and indifferent – but remember, HE IS NOT. “Everyone who asks receives…”  (Luke 11:10).

If all you see is a shadow on the face of the Father right now, HANG ON to the fact that He will ultimately give you clear understanding and will fully justify Himself in EVERYTHING that He has allowed into your life.

STAND FIRM IN FAITH, believing that what Jesus said is true, although in the meantime you do not understand what God is doing. He has BIGGER issues at stake than the particular things you are asking of Him right now.

Until later, take care in Him.

Common Sense

Hi, there!

Here is a gem of a truth taken from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” from the following location (just click the web address and you will have access to all 365  daily entries): http://utmost.org/prayer-in-the-father%E2%80%99s-hearing/ …. editing and emphasis will be mine throughout:

” NEVER let your common sense become so prominent and forceful that it pushes the Son of God to one side. Common sense is a gift that God gave to our human nature— but common sense is not the gift of His Son.”

Supernatural sense is the gift of His Son, and we should NEVER put our common sense on the throne.”

“The Son ALWAYS  recognizes and identifies with the Father, but common sense has NEVER yet done so and NEVER will.”

UPDATE 09/02/2015:

This except is from http://utmost.org/the-unsurpassed-intimacy-of-tested-faith/ and applies appropriately to what is presented about common sense:

“Every time you venture out in your life of faith, you will find something in your circumstances that, from a commonsense standpoint, will flatly contradict your faith.

But common sense is NOT faith, and faith is NOT common sense. In fact, they are as different as the natural life and the spiritual life.

Can you TRUST Jesus Christ where your common sense cannot trust Him? Can you venture out with courage on the words of Jesus Christ, while the realities of your common sense life continue to shout, “It’s all a lie”?”

End of excerpts.

Of course, common sense is a wonderful gift and blessing when dealing with matters in the human realm….such as how best to perform a job or task or deciding which car to purchase etc., etc.. But, as mentioned in a previous Category, we can pretty much toss it and human reasoning out the window when dealing with matters in God’s and Christ Jesus’ supernatural, Spiritual realm.

The closer we are to our Father and Savior, the more sensitive we will be to our supernatural sense and the best and easiest way to achieve this is to PRACTICE THE PRESENCE OF GOD, as brought out in the Categories “Practicing The Presence Of God” and “Why Isn’t God More Real To Me”.

Until later, in Him.

Cherish Our Enemies And Adversity

Greetings!

Here is some excellent advice, wisdom and truth from “Abandonment To Divine Providence” found at http://www.ccel.org/ccel/decaussade/abandonment.ii_1.ii.iv.vi.html (just click the web address and the entire book is available there).

Editing and emphasis will be mine as follows:

“I fear more my own action and that of my friends than that of my enemies.”

“There is no prudence so GREAT as that which offers no resistance to enemies, and which opposes to them ONLY a simple abandonment. This is to run before the wind, and as there is NOTHING else to be done, to keep quiet and peaceful. There is NOTHING that is more entirely opposed to worldly prudence than simplicity; it turns aside ALL schemes without comprehending them, without so much as a thought about them.”

“The divine action makes the soul take such just measures as to surprise those who want to take it by surprise themselves. It profits by ALL their efforts, and is raised by the very things that are done to lower it.”

“ALL obstacles turn to good of this soul, and by allowing its enemies a free hand, it obtains a continual service, so sufficing that all it has to fear is lest it should itself take part in a work of which God would be principal, and His enemies the agents, and in which it has NOTHING to do but to peacefully observe the work of God, and to follow with simplicity the attractions He gives it.”

“the precise circumstances of each event are so applied to the soul, without its perception, that EVERYTHING opposed to them cannot fail to be destroyed.”

End of excerpts.

How blessed and fortunate we are to have such a great God and Father, as well as Savior, Who can ALWAYS turn the worst of events, circumstances and failures to our ultimate good….Romans 8:28. It just boggles my mind at times!!

I will add that I definitely believe in combating, physically,  an ‘enemy’ when it comes to malicious attacks on your person or when we may be called on to help an innocent person who is physically assaulted by an evil person.

Turning the other cheek when slapped (Matthew 5:39) obviously refers to a simple domestic confrontation when a single slap may be used by an opponent but not to a violent beating attempt by another person to really hurt or kill someone.

Jesus, Himself, said that carrying a sword was allowed, and this was obviously not just for using it to cut up  veggies or meat for a meal! (Luke 22:36)

Another example is in  Matthew 8:5-13 involving the Roman centurion. Jesus did not consider him a sinner for “bearing the sword” to uphold authority (Romans 13:4), but rather, greatly applauded his faith.

All the best, in Him.

The Life Of Faith

Howdy!

Here is a wonderful excerpt from “Abandonment To Divine Providence” which can be found at http://www.ccel.org/ccel/decaussade/abandonment.ii_1.ii.i.iv.html (just click the web address with your pointer and you will also be able to access the entire book there). Emphasis and editing will be mine throughout….here we go:

“There is nothing more generous than the way in which a soul having faith, accepts the most deadly perils and troubles, beholding in them something Divine of the spiritual life.”

“The life of faith, and the instinct of faith are one and the same. It is an enjoyment of the goods of God, and a confidence founded on the expectation of His protection, making EVERYTHING pleasant and received with good grace.”

“It is indifference to, and at the same time a preparation for EVERY place, state, or person.”

FAITH IS NEVER UNHAPPY, even when the senses are most desolate.”

“This lively faith is ALWAYS in God, ALWAYS in His action above contrary appearances by which the senses are darkened. The senses, in terror, suddenly cry to the soul, “Unhappy one! You have now no resource, you are lost,” and instantly faith with a stronger voice answers: “KEEP FIRM, GO ON, AND FEAR NOTHING.”

An additional quote from Chapter 2 Section 8 reads: “reason is always suspicious, and has always some argument against it. ALL its ideas are confused. There is nothing in it that reason has ever known or read about, or been accustomed to admire; it is something quite new.

Further still in Chapter 4 Section 1 we have this: “FEAR NOT, faithful soul, for this is your right path, and the way by which God conducts you.  There is no way more safe and sure than this dark way of faith.”

Until later, in Him.

EVERY MOMENT Is God’s Will

Hi, again!

Yeah, I am back so soon because I want to share with you some more excerpts from “Abandonment To Divine Providence” and these are from http://www.ccel.org/ccel/decaussade/abandonment.ii_1.i.ii.x.html (just click on the web address with your pointer). Of course, the entire book is FREE online at this website. Emphasis will be mine and here we go:

“The present moment is the ambassador of God to declare His mandates.”

“Thus the soul advances by ALL these things and flows out from its centre to its goal. It never  stops but sails with every wind. Any and every direction leads equally to the shore of infinity. EVERYTHING is a help to it, and is, without exception, an instrument of sanctity.”

“for self, to be in ALL things submissive to the will of God and to please Him; making it our sole satisfaction to sustain the present moment as though there were NOTHING else to hope for in the world.”

“That which God does at each moment is a DIVINE thought expressed by a created thing”

” It is also to know, to adore and to love His adorable will at every moment and in ALL its decrees, regarding them ALL as so many veils, shadows and names of this holy and everlasting will.”

“It is then, by this continual recognition of the will of God as manifested and revealed in ALL things, that He reigns in us, that His will is done on earth as it is in Heaven, and that our souls obtain nourishment.”

“God bestows graces and favors on faithful souls. To enrich the soul at the expense of the senses, filling it by so much the more as they experience the more terrible emptiness, is a secret of the DIVINE wisdom.”

“The events of every moment bear the impress of the will of God, and of His adorable Name.”

“We can no longer consider our moments as trifles since in them is a whole kingdom of sanctity and food”

Moment most precious! How insignificant in the eyes of the vulgar, but how GREAT in those enlightened by faith.”

End of excerpts from this Section.

These three excerpts are from Book One Chapter 2 Section 11:

“This vast activity (Jesus working with us), which is in itself ever the same from the beginning to the end of time, is employed with every moment, pouring its immensity and virtue on the souls which adore it, love it, and rejoice in it alone.”

“the divine action is applied by every single thing and at every moment for my PERFECTION”

” each present moment contains ALL that is best for you, and as such must be loved and esteemed.”

Take care in Him….moment by moment.

Faith Defies Senses And Human Reason

I read this morning an excellent commentary from Chapter 2 Section 4 of “Abandonment To Divine Providence” ( http://www.ccel.org/ccel/decaussade/abandonment.ii_1.i.ii.iv.html ….just click the website with your pointer) on how the eye of faith should dominate our every moment.

Of course, our physical senses, reasoning and human logic serve and help us quite well  in basic human living. But when it comes to the workings and hidden mysteries of God and Christ Jesus in our daily lives we can toss them out the window. Faith by means of the Holy Spirit is to be our ONLY standard for gauging what is happening.

The author of this book writes in another Section that “The life of faith is a continual struggle against the senses.”

Take care, in Him.
