The Faith To Persevere

Hi, there!

Here is another excellent excerpt from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” and it,as well as his other 364 entries, can be found at http://utmost.org/the-faith-to-persevere/ . I have edited it and added emphasis:

”     The Faith To Persevere

‘Because you have kept My command to persevere’… —Revelation 3:10

Perseverance means more than endurance— more than simply holding on until the end. A saint’s life is in the hands of God like a bow and arrow in the hands of an archer. God is aiming at something the saint cannot see, but our Lord continues to stretch and strain, and every once in a while the saint says, “I can’t take any more.” Yet God pays no attention; He goes on stretching until His purpose is in sight, and then He lets the arrow fly.

ENTRUST YOURSELF TO GOD’S HANDS. Is there something in your life for which you need perseverance right now? Maintain your intimate relationship with Jesus Christ through the perseverance of faith. Proclaim as Job did, “Though He slay me,  yet will I trust Him” (Job 13:15)

Faith is NOT some weak and pitiful emotion, but is STRONG and VIGOROUS confidence built on the fact that GOD IS HOLY LOVE. And even though you cannot see Him right now and cannot understand what He is doing, you know Him.. Faith is the supreme effort of your life— throwing yourself with ABANDON and TOTAL CONFIDENCE upon God.

God ventured His all in Jesus Christ to save us, and now He wants us to venture our ALL with total abandoned confidence in Him. There are areas in our lives where that faith has not worked in us as yet— places still untouched by the life of God. There were none of those places in Jesus Christ’s life, and there are to be none in ours. Jesus prayed, “This is eternal life, that they may know You…” (John 17:3).

If we will take this view, life will become one great romance— a GLORIOUS opportunity of seeing wonderful things ALL the time. God is disciplining us to get us into this central place of POWER.”

Take care, in Him.

We Are Only What We Are In The Dark

Hey, there!

At the website I refer you to for all 365 entries in the book “My Utmost For His Highest” ( http://utmost.org/faith%E2%80%94-not-emotion/ ) by Oswald Chambers, there is a section in the upper right corner titled “Wisdom from Oswald Chambers” and this is in addition to the main entry for that date and which changes daily . They are quotes from other writings by this remarkable, quite Spiritual saint.

Here goes:

“We are only what we are in the dark; all the rest is reputation. What God looks at is what we are in the dark—the imaginations of our minds; the thoughts of our heart; the habits of our bodies; these are the things that mark us in God’s sight.  The Love of God—The Ministry of the Unnoticed, 669 L

UPDATE On “Supernatural Joy”

Hi, there!

I have another excellent excerpt for you from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” (please reference the Category with the same title as the book to get all of his entries FREE).

I had Posted a Category entitled “Supernatural Joy” and  am going to add the following to it today as an UPDATE, and all emphasis in the excerpt will be mine. Here goes:

” The underlying foundation of the Christian faith is the undeserved, LIMITLESS miracle of the love of God that was exhibited on the Cross of Calvary; a love that is not earned and can never be. Paul said this is the reason that “in ALL these things we are more than conquerors.” We are SUPER-VICTORS  with a JOY that comes from experiencing the very things which look as if they are going to overwhelm us.

Huge waves that would frighten an ordinary swimmer produce a tremendous thrill for the surfer who has ridden them. Let’s apply that to our own circumstances. The things we try to avoid and fight against— tribulation, suffering, and persecution— ARE THE VERY THINGS THAT PRODUCE ABUNDANT JOY IN US. “We are more than conquerors through Him” “in ALL these things”, NOT IN SPITE OF THE THEM, BUT IN THE MIDST OF THEM. A saint doesn’t know the joy of the Lord in spite of tribulation, but because of it. Paul said, “I am EXCEEDINGLY JOYFUL in ALL our tribulation”.

The undiminished radiance, which is the result of ABUNDANT JOY, is not built on anything passing, but on the LOVE of GOD  that nothing can change. And the experiences of life, whether they are everyday events or terrifying ones, are powerless to “separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”

End of excerpt.

Please keep in mind that we are dealing with a ‘Holy’ joy here, which would far exceed mere ‘human’ joy!

All the best, in Him.

Total Surrender Defines True Love

Greetings!

I have another entry for you from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest”; please reference the Post (Category) by the same title to get all of his entries FREE. Here goes:

“If what we call love doesn’t take us beyond ourselves, it is not really love. If we have the idea that love is characterized as cautious, wise, sensible, shrewd, and never taken to extremes, we have missed the true meaning. This may describe affection and it may bring us a warm feeling, but it is not a true and accurate description of love.

Have you ever been driven to do something for God not because you felt that it was useful or your duty to do so, or that there was anything in it for you, but simply because you love Him? Have you ever realized that you can give things to God that are of value to Him? Or are you just sitting around daydreaming about the greatness of His redemption, while neglecting all the things you could be doing for Him? I’m not referring to works which could be regarded as divine and miraculous, but ordinary, simple human things— things which would be evidence to God that you are totally surrendered to Him. Have you ever created what Mary of Bethany created in the heart of the Lord Jesus? “She has done a good work for Me.”

There are times when it seems as if God watches to see if we will give Him even small gifts of surrender, just to show how genuine our love is for Him. To be surrendered to God is of more value than our personal holiness. Concern over our personal holiness causes us to focus our eyes on ourselves, and we become overly concerned about the way we walk and talk and look, out of fear of offending God. “…but perfect love casts out fear…” once we are surrendered to God (1 John 4:18). We should quit asking ourselves, “Am I of any use?” and accept the truth that we really are not of much use to Him. The issue is never of being of use, but of being of value to God Himself. Once we are totally surrendered to God, He will work through us all the time.”

End of entry.

There is another section on the same page that has this excellent truth:

“Jesus Christ is always unyielding to my claim to my right to myself. The one essential element in all our Lord’s teaching about discipleship is abandon, no calculation, no trace of self-interest. Disciples Indeed, 395 L

Why It Is So Difficult To Be A True Christian

Greetings!

This Post follows nicely the last Post (“When God Becomes Real To Us”) concerning why it is so NECESSARY that  we CONTINUALLY have ABSOLUTE CONCENTRATION and DEPENDENCE on our Father and Christ Jesus, moment by moment. Please also read the UPDATE of 01/24/2015 that was added to the last Post today.

Here is a list of reasons why it is so VERY difficult to not only remain a true Christian but also to actually progressively grow into the Image of Christ Himself (Colossians 3:10).

1. The very nature of our corruptible and decaying earthly bodies is CONSTANTLY warring against the ‘fruit’ and desires of the Holy Spirit (Romans 7:22-23). Please also reference the Post “Law Of Sin In Our Members”.

2. The very center and essence of our being as humans is our  “heart” which Jeremiah 17:9 tells us “is DECEITFUL above ALL things, and DESPERATELY WICKED; who can know it?“.

In other words, we are pretty much PROGRAMED to be sinful!! Let’s continue.

3. If #1 and #2 were not bad enough, throw in how Satan and his band of sinister sidekicks are CONSTANTLY ASSAILING us from within! He and they are ALWAYS lurking to trap us into sinning at every and any available opportunity (1 Peter 5:8).

4. Add to all of this what Jesus teaches with the parable in Matthew 13:22 about how the cares, worries and desire for earthly goods and riches of this life can cause us to fall away completely. Concerning the truth in this parable Oswald Chambers writes (01/27/2015 entry….emphasis mine):

“It is one STEADY INVASION, and these things will come in like a flood, UNLESS we allow the Spirit of God to raise up the banner against it.”

WOW….talking about having the deck stacked against us, it would seem almost IMPOSSIBLE for any Christian to remain as such, much less grow into becoming more like our Lord Himself.

Thankfully and blessedly, because of God’s love, mercy and grace for us, we have the ability by the SAME Holy Spirit that was in Jesus when He walked the earth and overcame #1,#2,#3 and #4 (John 16:33)!

However, this victory is given only to those who CONTINUALLY (even though we may fall short and fail occasionally) “walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16-25; Romans 8:1,4).

Not only are we able to have VICTORY but also have the ability to ENJOY the “fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22)  that is of a HOLY nature and far superior to its human counterpart! Please reference the Post “Fruit Of The Spirit” for more information on this.

This is why what is brought out in the Post “When God Becomes Real To Us” is so important….again, please read the UPDATE to this Post as noted the first paragraph above.

All the best in Him.

God Does Not “Patch Up” Christians

Hey, there!

I want share with you the entry of December 30th in Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” (please reference the Post by the same name as his book for FREE access to all his devotional entries). Here goes:

Our Lord never “patches up” our natural virtues, that is, our natural traits, qualities, or characteristics. He completely remakes a person on the inside— “…put on the new man…” (Ephesians 4:24). In other words, see that your natural human life is putting on all that is in keeping with the new life. The life God places within us develops its own new virtues, not the virtues of the seed of Adam, but of Jesus Christ. Once God has begun the process of sanctification in your life, watch and see how God causes your confidence in your own natural virtues and power to wither away. He will continue until you learn to draw your life from the reservoir of the resurrection life of Jesus.

Thank God if you are going through this drying-up experience!

The sign that God is at work in us is that He is destroying our confidence in the natural virtues, because they are not promises of what we are going to be, but only a wasted reminder of what God created man to be. We want to cling to our natural virtues, while all the time God is trying to get us in contact with the life of Jesus Christ— a life that can never be described in terms of natural virtues. It is the saddest thing to see people who are trying to serve God depending on that which the grace of God.

They are depending solely on what they have by virtue of heredity. God does not take our natural virtues and transform them, because our natural virtues could never even come close to what Jesus Christ wants. No natural love, no natural patience, no natural purity can ever come up to His demands. But as we bring every part of our natural bodily life into harmony with the new life God has placed within us, He will exhibit in us the virtues that were characteristic of the Lord Jesus.

And every virtue we possess
Is His alone.”

End of entry.

All the best in Him.

Thank God Continually For Being The Way He Is

Hey, there!

First of all, it defies human logic and the laws of science that there even is God. They scream out that something can never come from nothing and every thing has to have a beginning; so, how could God have no beginning?  Was there never a nothing to begin with? Ha!….I’m rightly confused!!

Anyway, after we come into our glory, I sure hope we will be able to ‘understand’ how our Father first got there!

We so take for granted that God is as PERFECT as He IS as well as for what He PERFECTLY is NOT.

He NEVER:

lies, leaves us alone NOR fails us, is unfair, is moody, is prejudice, is weak, is tired or sleepy, subjects us to anything that is not for our good, is mean spirited, makes a mistake, is caught by surprise at anything, is defeated, sins and is NEVER everything else we can think of that is negative, evil and smacks of failure.

He ALWAYS:

Is PERFECT and GLORIOUS in EVERY way….His POWER absolutely knows NO LIMIT! Is for and stands for LOVE, JUSTICE, MERCY, FORGIVENESS AND KINDNESS.

I have a calendar in my kitchen with different pictures for each month showing awesome views of the universe. They are truly  a wonderful reminder of His awesome power, the likes of which I am sure is just a SMALL SAMPLE of what we will discover and experience when we come into the Kingdom. You can reference the Post “God’s Creative Handiwork” for some breathtaking  displays.

Our Father also truly LOVES BEAUTY….besides those sample we see around us in nature, it is further illustrated by the description of the New Jerusalem in Revelation 21:18-21.,,,JUST BEAUTIFUL!

Likewise, our Lord, Savior, Brother, Friend, and King ,Christ Jesus, is as PERFECTLY PERFECT as is His and our Father.

We should be so THANKFUL that the RULING POWER and CONTROL in all creation is not with someone like Satan; but rather, is with our Father and Jesus….and we should THANK Them TIME AND TIME AGAIN throughout the day and night with a short, spontaneous acknowledgment  of “THANK You for being there as You are”.

All the best, in Him.
