Clearing Up Spiritual Confusion

Hi, there!

This is another excerpt from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” found at http://utmost.org/arguments-or-obedience/ which follows up nicely with the last Category on “Spiritual Confusion”.

Editing and emphasis will be mine throughout….and here we go:

“…the simplicity that is in Christ.  (2 Corinthians 11:3)

SIMPLICITY IS THE SECRET TO SEEING THINGS CLEARLY.

A saint does not think clearly until a long time passes, but a saint ought to see clearly without any difficulty. You CANNOT think through spiritual confusion to make things clear; to make things clear, you must obey.

In intellectual matters you can think things out, but in spiritual matters you will only think yourself into further wandering  thoughts and more confusion.

If there is something in your life upon which God has put His pressure, then obey Him in that matter. Bring ALL your “arguments and…every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” regarding the matter, and everything will become as clear as daylight to you (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Your reasoning capacity will come later, but reasoning is not how we see. We see like children, and when we try to be wise WE SEE NOTHING (see Matthew 11:25).

Even the very smallest thing that we allow in our lives that is NOT under the control of the Holy Spirit, is completely sufficient to account for spiritual confusion, and spending all of our time thinking about it will still NEVER make it clear.

Spiritual confusion can ONLY be conquered through obedience. As soon as we obey, we have discernment.

….when our natural power of sight is devoted and submitted in obedience to the Holy Spirit, it becomes the very power by which we perceive God’s will, and our ENTIRE life is kept in simplicity .”

All the best, in Him.

Spiritual Confusion

Greetings!

Here is another insightful excerpt from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” and can be found at http://utmost.org/going-through-spiritual-confusion/ , along with the other 364 of his daily devotionals. Editing and emphasis will be mine.

“There are times in your spiritual life when there is confusion, and the way out of it is not simply to say that you should not be confused. It is not a matter of right and wrong, but a matter of God taking you through a way that you temporarily do not understand. And it is only by going through the spiritual confusion that you will come to the understanding of what God wants for you.

….is how the heavenly Father will appear to you at times. You will think that He is an unkind friend, but remember – HE IS NOT. The time will come when everything will be explained. There seems to be a cloud on the friendship of the heart, and often even love itself has to wait in pain and tears for the FULLER  fellowship and oneness. When God appears to be completely shrouded, will you hang on with confidence in Him?

Jesus said that there are times when your Father will appear as if He where an unnatural Father – as if  He were callous and indifferent – but remember, HE IS NOT. “Everyone who asks receives…”  (Luke 11:10).

If all you see is a shadow on the face of the Father right now, HANG ON to the fact that He will ultimately give you clear understanding and will fully justify Himself in EVERYTHING that He has allowed into your life.

STAND FIRM IN FAITH, believing that what Jesus said is true, although in the meantime you do not understand what God is doing. He has BIGGER issues at stake than the particular things you are asking of Him right now.

Until later, take care in Him.

Destined To Be Holy

Greetings!

I have another excellent excerpt for you from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” and it is found at http://utmost.org/destined-to-be-holy/ . Actually, this is in perfect line with the Category “The Purpose Of Life”. Editing and emphasis will be mine throughout….we begin:

“…it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”  1 Peter 1:16Peter 1:16

We must continually remind ourselves of THE PURPOSE OF LIFE. We are…. destined…. to HOLINESS.

Today we have far too many desires and interests, and our lives are being consumed and wasted by them. Many of them may be right, noble, and good, and may later be fulfilled, but in the meantime God must cause their importance to decrease.  THE ONLY THING THAT TRULY MATTERS is whether a person will accept the God  Who will make him HOLY.  AT ALL COST,  a person must have the right relationship with God.

God has only one intended destiny for mankind— HOLINESS. His only goal is to produce saints. God is not some eternal blessing-machine for people to use, and He did not come to save us out of pity— He came to save us because He created us to be HOLY. Atonement through the Cross of Christ means that God can put me back into PERFECT ONENESS with Himself through the death of Jesus Christ, without a trace of anything coming between us any longer.

Holiness means absolute purity of your walk before God, the words coming from your mouth, and EVERY thought in your mind— placing EVERY detail of your life under the scrutiny of God Himself. Holiness is NOT simply what God gives me, but what God has given me that is being exhibited in my life.

Usefulness

Hey, there!

I was reading a daily devotional this morning from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” at http://utmost.org/usefulness-or-relationship/ and he made some very good and truthful points concerning whether our relationship with our Father and Christ Jesus is more important than our apparent successes and achievements regarding our Christian works and activities.

The following excerpts are edited and emphasized by me.

He noted that if the latter was more important “then Jesus Christ was the greatest failure who ever lived.” It is true….His ministry was an utter disaster and in ruin as “all” had left Him and ALL that everyone had hope for in Him turned out to be a seeming lie and illusion. In the eyes of the world, He had accomplished absolutely nothing good (except His apparent healings); but rather, only grief and sorrow for those who had believed in Him.

Mr. Chambers goes on to write:

“For the saint, direction and guidance come from God Himself, NOT some measure of that saint’s usefulness. It is the work that God does through us that counts, NOT what we do for HimALL that our Lord gives His attention to in a person’s life is that person’s relationship with God.”

I often remember the example of Hannah  given to us in Luke 2:36-38. She offered God her total attention and devotion night and day and never left the temple. She did NOT actively ‘save souls’ or have ANY apparent good works or achievements to be applauded before human eyes….none!

And yet, she received God’s blessed approval because of her personal relationship with Him….and nothing more.

We should NEVER feel discouraged by any apparent lack of good  human works or successes in the Christan realm of our lives because the one main concern  of God and of our Savior is for us to continually  have that PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Them.

Of course, Christian ‘good works’ are to be applauded, and they will also be rewarded; HOWEVER, as indicated above, they are NOT the only true measure of a saint’s life, nor the most important.

Take care, in Him.

True Divine Peace

Greetings!

And, yes, I have another excerpt for you from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” which can be found at http://utmost.org/are-you-ever-troubled/ , along with his other 364 daily devotionals.

As usual, editing and emphasis will  be mine throughout….we begin:

” Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you….John 14:27

….when we are awakened to the realities of life, true inner peace is IMPOSSIBLE unless it is received from Jesus.

Are you severely troubled right now? Are you afraid and confused by the waves and the turbulence God sovereignly allows to enter your life?

Have you left no stone of your faith unturned, yet still not found any well of peace, joy, or comfort? Does your life seem completely barren to you?

THEN LOOK UP AND RECEIVE THE QUIET CONTENTMENT OF THE LORD JESUS.

If you are NOT right with God, you can NEVER turn your mind anywhere but on yourself. Allowing ANYTHING to hide the face of Jesus Christ from you either causes you to become troubled or gives you a false sense of security.

….if you only try to worry your way out of the problem, you destroy His effectiveness in you, and you deserve whatever you get. We become troubled because we have not been taking Him into account.

When a person confers with Jesus Christ, the confusion stops, because there is no confusion in Him.  Lay EVERYTHING out before Him, and when you are faced with difficulty, bereavement, and sorrow, listen to Him say, “LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED….John 14:27,”

Until later, in Him.

Self-Sacrifice

Howdy!

I have another excerpt for you from “My Utmost For His Highest” by Oswald Chambers and it, along with 364 other daily devotionals, can be found at http://utmost.org/sacrifice-and-friendship/ (just click the web address with your pointer).

Editing and emphasis will be mine throughout:

“We will never know the JOY of self-sacrifice until we surrender in EVERY detail of our lives. Yet self-surrender is the most difficult thing for us to do.

But as soon as we do totally surrender, abandoning ourselves to Jesus, the Holy Spirit gives us a taste of His JOY.

Our Lord is our example of a life of self-sacrifice, and He perfectly exemplified Psalm 40:8, “I DELIGHT to do Your will, O my God….” He endured tremendous personal sacrifice, yet with overflowing JOY.

If He is not the One to whom I am looking for direction and guidance, then there is NO benefit in my sacrifice. But when my sacrifice is made with my eyes focused on Him, slowly but surely His molding influence becomes evident in my life.

Beware of letting your natural desires hinder your walk in love before God.

But the one true desire of a saint is the Lord Jesus. Love for God is NOT something sentimental or emotional— for a saint to love as God loves is the most practical thing imaginable.

Our friendship with Jesus is based on the new life He created in us, which has NO resemblance or attraction to our old life but ONLY to the life of God. It is a life that is COMPLETELY humble, pure, and devoted to God.”

All the best, in Him.

Common Sense

Hi, there!

Here is a gem of a truth taken from Oswald Chambers’ “My Utmost For His Highest” from the following location (just click the web address and you will have access to all 365  daily entries): http://utmost.org/prayer-in-the-father%E2%80%99s-hearing/ …. editing and emphasis will be mine throughout:

” NEVER let your common sense become so prominent and forceful that it pushes the Son of God to one side. Common sense is a gift that God gave to our human nature— but common sense is not the gift of His Son.”

Supernatural sense is the gift of His Son, and we should NEVER put our common sense on the throne.”

“The Son ALWAYS  recognizes and identifies with the Father, but common sense has NEVER yet done so and NEVER will.”

UPDATE 09/02/2015:

This except is from http://utmost.org/the-unsurpassed-intimacy-of-tested-faith/ and applies appropriately to what is presented about common sense:

“Every time you venture out in your life of faith, you will find something in your circumstances that, from a commonsense standpoint, will flatly contradict your faith.

But common sense is NOT faith, and faith is NOT common sense. In fact, they are as different as the natural life and the spiritual life.

Can you TRUST Jesus Christ where your common sense cannot trust Him? Can you venture out with courage on the words of Jesus Christ, while the realities of your common sense life continue to shout, “It’s all a lie”?”

End of excerpts.

Of course, common sense is a wonderful gift and blessing when dealing with matters in the human realm….such as how best to perform a job or task or deciding which car to purchase etc., etc.. But, as mentioned in a previous Category, we can pretty much toss it and human reasoning out the window when dealing with matters in God’s and Christ Jesus’ supernatural, Spiritual realm.

The closer we are to our Father and Savior, the more sensitive we will be to our supernatural sense and the best and easiest way to achieve this is to PRACTICE THE PRESENCE OF GOD, as brought out in the Categories “Practicing The Presence Of God” and “Why Isn’t God More Real To Me”.

Until later, in Him.
